Summer Vocal Intensive - Adult cohort July 7-August 4 2025 What equals “success” as a singer? Throughout my life as a professional voice teacher I’ve heard some of the same sentiments over and over from singers at all levels of technique and ability. Things like “I only sing in the car/shower/when no one is home,” “I didn’t get the part so I’m not good enough,” “I’m not a real singer because I can’t read sheet-music,” “Real singers are just naturally good, they don’t have to work at it” As a singer who has struggled greatly to find my own true voice I have reached the conclusion that though these messages are pervasive, they are untrue. I believe each of us has a unique and important voice and we are allowed to nurture, train and support it however we choose! So my answer to the above question is this: A “successful” singer is someone who is connected to their voice from a place of authenticity, ownership and joy. The Adult Cohort This July I will be returning to Ann Arbor to lead a cohort of adult singers through a course designed to deepen our experience of meaningful singing success! The 4 week course will provide singers with regular individual voice lessons, weekly listening assignments, reading assignments and journaling exercises. We will gather weekly as a group to engage in activities and conversations designed to share and learn from each other’s experiences. Group vocal and theater improvisation will factor into these sessions, so be ready for an atmosphere both of introspection and play! My goal for you by the end of the month is to emerge with a new level of confidence and inspiration as a singing artist, a clear understanding of your core challenges as a vocalist and a plan for your next steps as a singer. Hopefully you also have some wonderful new friends! Above all we will prioritize a safe space within which to explore these elements. Lessons and Group classes will take place in a beautiful private residence in the West Park neighborhood in Ann Arbor, MI. Requirements for participation: -You must already have a singing practice of some kind in your life or have had singing experience in the past. Feel free to contact me and we can schedule a time to talk. |
